DeTour 2013 / Hong Kong Tramways
In 2013 the design festival, deTour broke from its site specific format and deployed creativity on Hong Kong’s public transport system and infrastructure, including the transformation of a fleet of trams.
Project Details
Solution
Convert a decommissioned tram destined for scrap into a restaurant
Accommodate 30 guests and 4 wait staff
Comply with Transport Department safety standards
Design and build within in 3 weeks
Completely gut original tram interior
Repaint ceiling, restore original brass fittings and teak frame, lay flooring
Custom Build and manufacture modular furniture for max capacity with comfort and quality
Rewire tram and install LED lighting to replace fluorescents for warmth and comfort
